More About GPS Trackers

GPS trackers are extremely useful tools that can be used for any number of purposes. Perhaps you are a parent of a brand new teenage driver that you want to make sure is being safe. You can put one of these in the car and get notifications if they leave certain areas, go over a certain speed, or even get ignition notifications based on the time that it occurs. Maybe you have an elderly family member that you want to have independence, but also have the peace of mind of knowing where they are. You can put one in their vehicle to keep track of them easily. They can be used in the case of a vehicle emergency to easily ascertain the location of the vehicle so that you can direct emergency services. Probably one of the main uses of these GPS trackers is asset protection. You can place these in cars, RVs, boats, jet skis, motorcycles, trailers, and construction equipment just to name a few. If any of these are moved without authorization, you can easily log in to find their location to recover your assets.

They work by receiving their location using global positioning satellites. These satellites are very accurate and can determine the location of the tracker to within a few feet. Then the trackers communicate by sending that location over cellular networks to their respective cloud service. You would then log in on your smartphone or other internet enabled device so that you can access that information. Or you can also set up notifications so that you are automatically notified of certain events such as leaving a certain area. They either connect through your vehicles on-board diagnostics (OBD) port or hardwire into your vehicles electrical system. These run off the vehicles battery, so it is advised to make sure that the battery is in good condition. There is also a completely wireless model that runs off of a long-life battery. They will periodically check in with their location, and possibly other information; based on the model, service level, and settings.

We offer services from two great companies: Honeywell and Uplink. They each offer their own suite of features and service levels. Honeywell’s Total Connect Tracking can be linked to all of the other Honeywell Total Connect packages for a comprehensive, integrated service.
