More About DSC Communicators
The DSC communicators listed in this section allow your DSC alarm system to utilize cellular or IP connections for alarm monitoring or remote interactive features. These communicators work with either the DSC PowerSeries NEO or the older DSC PowerSeries alarm systems. The communicators you'll find here work with either Alarm.com Services or DSC's proprietary service, Connect 24. The Alarm.com communicators are by far the more popular option as they are relatively easy to install and require a very minimal amount of programming to set up.
The first communicator options you'll find are the TL880 communicators for the DSC NEO system. The TL880 and its predecessors were Alarm.com's first fully integrated communicator, allowing numerous features that were previously unheard of for the DSC NEO, such as remote firmware updates for system components through alarm services. The TL880 is a dual-path 4G LTE and Ethernet communicator that connects your DSC NEO to Alarm.com's Interactive Services. TL880 communicators come with either an AT&T or Verizon SIM card built in, so you can utilize the cell signal that works best in your area. The TL880LECAT-N includes an AT&T SIM card, and the TL880LECZV-N comes with a Verizon SIM card. In addition, the TL880 has a built-in Ethernet port, giving you the option of connecting the unit to a router or modem for a backup connection. Using Alarm.com, you'll be able to not only forward your alarm signals to a Central Station, but you'll have the ability to control and monitor the alarm system directly from your phone with the Alarm.com app. The TL880 comes with a 6ft antenna, which you can maneuver to find the best signal within a given room, and the TL880 can be run up to 100ft from the alarm system if you need to place it higher in the building.
Following the TL880 is the SEM300-PS, which is the Alarm.com communicator for the DSC PowerSeries alarm systems, such as the PC1616, PC1832, and PC1864. Although the DSC PowerSeries has been discontinued, those with existing systems can still utilize Alarm.com's award-winning interactive services with this module. The SEM300-PS is a dual-path communicator that uses both 4G LTE and an Ethernet IP connection for signalling. The SEM300-PS-AT has a built-in AT&T SIM card, while the SEM300-PS-VT comes with a Verizon SIM card, allowing you to choose the best signal provider in your area. Included in the SEM300s is an Ethernet port so you can run an optional IP connection to your home's router or modem.
In addition, we have 2 DSC-branded communicators for use with the DSC NEO as well. The TL280LERX-AT is a dual-path communicator that utilizes an AT&T SIM card and DSC's Connect 24 services for communication. And the TL280RE is an IP-only communicator, which can be directly connected to a monitoring center for reduced cost monitoring. It is important to note, however, that the TL280RE requires networking knowledge and a very good understanding of the DSC NEO alarm system to set up. If you are not 100% sure you know what you're doing, it is recommended that you go with the Alarm.com TL880, which is much simpler to install and get operational. Additionally, AlarmSystemStore.com no longer offers IP-only monitoring, so if you purchase the TL280RE for your system, you will need a service provider that does.
