Motion Detectors Sensors

Motion Detectors Sensors

Motion detectors are sensors that detect movement in an installed area of a building. Some motion detectors are PIR (Passive infrared) only and some have a dual-lens which detects in both the PIR and Microwave ranges. There are also motion detectors that have pet immunity so your animals won't accidentally set them off. Whatever your situation, we have a motion detector suited to handle any job.

More About Motion Detectors Sensors

Motion detectors offer movement detection across a large viewing area for your system. Standard motion detectors use passive infrared (PIR) to detect heat signatures within their viewing area; however, dual-technology motion detectors typically have a secondary microwave detection sensor, which focuses more on detecting physical motion. Dual-technology sensors significantly decrease the chances of false alarms triggered by ambient heat or movement. Motions are generally mounted on walls or in corners; however, some are designed to be ceiling-mounted. Most motion detectors offer pet immunity, which will make the motion ignore motion signatures based on the estimated "weight" of the object it is viewing. It is important to note that no ceiling-mounted motions include pet immunity due to their altered viewing angle. Motion sensors should not be pointed directly at windows or placed near ventilation due to the potential for false alarms. Motions also work best when the movement within their viewing area moves sideways rather than directly toward the motion. For this reason, motions are not ideal when placed in hallways or stairwells.

Our current hardwired motion detector lineup consists of multiple detectors from both DSC and Honeywell. The first of which is the DSC LC-100. This cost-effective PIR motion detector is a viable option for almost all standard scenarios. The LC-100 offers a maximum detection range of up to 45ft and offers pet immunity up to 55lbs. Similarly, the Honeywell IS335 is another cost-effective PIR-only motion. The IS335 offers a 40ft maximum range along with a pet immunity up to 80lbs.

We also have 2 higher-quality wall-mounted motion detectors you may select from. The Honeywell IS3035V is a PIR-only motion sensor; however, it includes some extra features over its IS335 counterpart, such as higher RFI and white light immunity, along with using a higher-quality temperature sensor for PIR detection. The IS3035V offers an 80lbs pet immunity.  Going a step higher, the Honeywell DT8035V is a hardwired dual-technology motion which includes the secondary microwave detector in addition to its PIR sensor. The DT8035 includes the extra features found in the previously mentioned detector, including the RFI and white light immunity; however, it also bumps the pet immunity up to a max of 100lbs for those extra fluffy puppers out there.

For ceiling mount motions, we have 2 versions of the BV500 360-degree motions. The standard DSC BV500 is a motion-only model offering a 24-40ft diameter range when placed on 8-12ft ceilings, respectively. 12ft is the highest it is recommended that you place this unit; otherwise, you risk shrinking the max range and lowering the detection capabilities of the unit. The second version, the DSC BV500GB, is a dual-purpose ceiling motion and glass break sensor. In addition to detecting motion within the room, you'll also get audible glass breakage detection with a range of 20-25ft. The motion and glass break can be wired together so the sensor acts on a single zone, or you can separate them, allowing them to operate independently on separate zones.

And lastly, we have a wall-mount swivel bracket for mounting motions of any type. The DSC DM-W is a universal wall mount, meaning it will work with pretty much any wall-mounted motion you might have, and fits over a single gang box, which makes it handy for pre-wiring. You can plan to run your motion wires to a single gang box and cover the hole cleanly using this mount.
