What is Alarm.com?

Alarm.com is a provider of smart home security services. They offer features that include remote control of an alarm system, notifications from your alarm system for both emergency and non-emergency events, energy management, home automation, video surveillance, and wellness. They offer different service plans so that you are only paying for the features that you want. And all of their interactive service plans include the ability to forward alarm signals to a central station for traditional monitoring. - Back To Top

Which alarm panels are compatible with Alarm.com?

We carry 8 alarm systems that are compatible with Alarm.com. 6 are fully compatible and 2 are legacy systems that Alarm.com is backwards compatible with. The fully compatible systems are: Interlogix Simon XT, Interlogix Simon XTi-5, Interlogix NetworX, DSC Impassa, DSC PowerSeries NEO, and DSC Touch. The legacy systems are DSC PowerSeries (V4.2+) and Honeywell Vista (2005 or newer).

If you’re looking for a new alarm system that you want to work with Alarm.com, we’d recommend going with one of the DSC fully compatible systems. We’re big fans of DSC here and the 3 options give you a wide range of styles and price ranges that you should be able to find something to fit your needs.

If you already have the DSC PowerSeries or Honeywell Vista, adding the appropriate System Enhancement Module (SEM) will allow you to take advantage of the vast majority of Alarm.com features. - Back To Top

Does Alarm.com monitor the alarm system?

No. At least not in the traditional sense. Alarm.com is not a central station that has operators that will call to verify alarms and dispatch your local emergency services if needed.

Alarm.com does offer features that will allow you, and others that you designate, to receive notifications for emergency and non-emergency situations. You can then handle those situations however you see fit.

And with any Alarm.com plan (other than the standalone video service) wireless signal forwarding is included. With this and a central station monitoring package, Alarm.com will send your alarm signals to a traditional central station for monitoring. This is in addition to the notifications that will be sent out directly to you. The wireless signal forwarding option can be purchased alone if desired. - Back To Top

What is Alarm.com Crash and Smash protection?

Crash and smash is when someone breaks into a building and then disables, or smashes, the system while it is still in entry delay or dialer delay. And because the system never called out with an alarm signal, no action would be taken. This has always been a weakness of an alarm system and this was especially true for the newer all-in-one wireless systems where the main control panel is often easy to access. Alarm.com’s Crash and Smash Protection shores up this weakness.

Crash and Smash Protection works by monitoring the alarm system as soon as an entry delay is activated or when the alarm has been activated but before the dialer delay has expired. The alarm system will actually send a message to Alarm.com so that Alarm.com knows that the system is in a pre-alarm state or if there is a pending alarm. If Alarm.com does not receive another update from the alarm system for a disarm or alarm, Alarm.com will treat this as a possible alarm and send notifications to you and the central station (if used). - Back To Top

What is Alarm.com Wireless Signal Forwarding?

This service level is a great option for someone that wants to get monitoring that’s communicated through a cellular communicator, but doesn’t want to pay the extra for the interactive services. If you have a system that requires communications through Alarm.com (DSC Touch) or any system that can use Alarm.com, they are an economical option for cellular communications. And included with Wireless Signal Forwarding is Crash and Smash protection that takes an already very secure communication type and makes it even better.

You can always upgrade to a higher service plan to take advantage of all the great features that Alarm.com offers. - Back To Top

What are the features of Alarm.com Interactive?

Interactive is the first of Alarm.com’s 3 smart home security services plans. It deals mainly with being able to interact with your alarm system remotely as well as receiving notifications. And as with all of Alarm.com’s service plans wireless signal forwarding to a central station is included.

With the remote connection to the alarm system you’ll be able to: arm/disarm, see current status, see recent activity and a 60-day event history, and change user codes. Alarm.com supports multiple partition systems as well. And if you have multiple Alarm.com systems, you can link them all to one login. In addition, you can set up multiple logins that you grant different permissions to so that you can control who has access to what settings.

And finally there are numerous notifications that can be added and customized. These include: alarms, arming/disarming, various system events, no-show alerts, arming reminders, geo-services, sensor activity, and sensor-left-open. No-show alerts are for when you expect the alarm system to be disarmed at a certain time and it is not. Geo-services allow you to use the location of your phone for arming and disarming reminders. Sensor activity works on up to 50 sensors and includes non-emergency notifications. - Back To Top
