Re: 2W-B vs 2W-BT. Is there any disadvantage to replacing 20-year-old 2W-B devices with new 2W-BT detectors with heat sensor? This is for a residence. Is the 2W-BT model less reliable, perhaps with false alerts, device failure, shortened lifespan or other potential problem? It's nice to have "extra" protection, but is there any downside?
No, there is no downside to adding a combination sensor with heat detection unless the area regularly reaches above 130 degree temps.

My hard wired sensor system is over 10 yrs old. It has started beeping every few minutes. How do I know if it is defective and what do I do. Can I turn it off?
Generally consistent beeping from an alarm system indicates that it has a trouble condition. Troubles can be fixed 99% of the time, but if you're not familiar with the system, reach out to your installer for a service call.

We have 21008 system sensors in our house but we also have gas. Should we not have carbon monoxide detectors as well? How many years do the 21008 sensors last?
Generally, yes, it is a good idea to have a carbon monoxide sensor if you have gas appliances in your home, and smoke detectors have a 10-year lifespan before they can start to lose their sensitivity.

How do I know how old my 2W-B smoke detector is? At the bottom of the label on the back it has the letters/numbers "NO4-14-1428-004 9082". I know they should be replaced every 10 years. Thanks.

Your date code is likely the "9082" so per the code it would have been made in either 2009, or 2019 because the date codes recycle every ten years. If you dont recall replacing it 6 years ago, now would be a good time.

Can this smoke detector be placed in unheated spaces?
It could depending on how cold it gets there. The operating temperature for all smokes on our site is minimum 32 degrees F. If it drops below freezing it could "lock up" the sensor essentially not allowing it to trigger when it needs to.

What is the difference between the 2W-B and 2WT-B detectors and can they be intermixed? Thank you.
The 2WT-B sensor page describes the difference, but the 2WT-B includes a thermal heat sensor. And yes, they can be mixed.

Yes, all smoke detectors are supposed to be replaced after 10 years because they lose sensitivity over time.

Not unless you are using a remote annunciator. (Most don't)

Yes it is. It's compatible with any panel that supports 2 wire smokes, which is all the mainstream panels made by DSC, Honeywell, Napco and GE / UT over the last 20 years at least.

Most all modern alarm system now support this 2 wire type smoke detector. A two-wire smoke sends the power and zone circuit down the same two wires. This model is the same as the 2w-b model except is has built-in 135-degree heat sensor as well. We're often asked which type we recommend, 2 wire type or 4 wire type.
