QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • I have had a DSC system in my home for over 25 years that has been updated a few times as needed. I have only 2 PIR deterctors, a Bv-300 wall mount and a Bv-500 Ceiling mounted. After 15 years of service my DSC ceiling mounted Bv-500 (Bravo5) has had 2 false alarms in the last 3 weeks. I vacuumed it to clean it, like I have in the past, but it false again a few days later. Nothing has changed that would have created motion to set it off. Is it probably defective and time for replacement? Thank you, Jim

The sensor is most likely the issue considering the age, though its always a good idea to double check the wiring on both ends to make sure there are no loose or broken connections. If the wiring looks good though, replacing the sensor should solve the problem.

  • I have several motion sensors hard wired to my DSC 1832. One of the sensors is DSC BV500 Bravo 5 Ceiling Mounted 360 Degree Motion Detector. This is the only one of this type sensors on the system. It is also the only one that has given me 2 false alarms in the last 18-24 months. Question: is there something that is likely wrong with the sensor that I can adjust or is it likely my system? Would replacing this sensor with a new unit be the best cure or is there another similar sensor for ceiling mount that provides circular protection that you suggest? I have bought both of my systems and all components from Alarm System Store in case you need to know this for prompt reply.

I'm not in tech support so I can't answer this definitively, but I am a user of these and can tell you from personal experience that ceiling motions are way more sensitive than wall mounted motions because of the way they look down over an area as opposed to across it. Two false alarms in two years doesn't sound at all like a defect to me. A defective a motion would false much more routinely. I would bet It saw something that triggered it almost certainly. I personally had one false and happened to have a video camera in the room that I could review. Sure enough after reviewing it a couple stacked empty boxes in the corner shifted slightly and was the source of the trigger.

  • What is the maximum height I can mount the motion

12 ft. is the max recommended mounting height.
