Interlogix TXE221 Recessed Door - Window SensorFor those that want a totally concealed wireless door sensor, the GE TXE221 is the answer. Can be used on most any door and is totally concealed in the door jam. Compatible with all GE alarm systems we sell. The sensing unit measures .75 x 2.5 in. and the magnet itself measures .75 x 0.5 in. This will transmit on Interlogix wireless frequency of 319 MHZ. These units are referred to as 'Crystal transmitters'. This means that the carrier wave/frequency of the transmitter is set with a quartz crystal. The transmitter uses a lithium battery and because of the crystal technology; batteries will last on average 5 years before you have to replace them.
To install this transmitter you will have to drill a hole in the door jamb 3/4" in diameter and 3" in deep so that you can insert the transmitter portion. Then you'll have to drill another hole that is 3/4" in diameter and 1/2-3/4 in deep in the door itself to accommodate the magnet. Before installing the actual transmitter it is recommended that you enroll the transmitter into the Interlogix panels' programming. After you have done this and tested functionality you may install the transmitter in its final resting place.
These transmitters are compatible with any of Interlogix's hardwired alarm systems that have a wireless receive added. Such panels include the NX-4, the NX-6, the NX-8 and the NX-8E. Interlogix also makes a wide variety of wireless systems that this transmitter can be used with as well. These include the Simon XT, the Simon XTi-5 and the AdvisorOne. There are many other varieties of transmitters made by Interlogix. They have another smaller recessed door contact for installations where you can't drill into the door jamb as deep. That transmitter is the TX1510-01-1 and it works just as well and only varies in appearance for different installation situations.
Most people prefer the recessed contacts for doors, and sometimes windows, because they are easily concealable. They are not easily seen in this installation type so there's less of an instance for tampering than with the surface mount variety. Interlogix wireless devices have an awesome range for placement. You'll get 500-600 feet so you'll be able to cover a fairly sizeable home or small business.
