DSC PowerSeries NEO HS2032NKCP01 Board and Cabinet
PowerSeries NEO is DSC's newest line of quality security systems that offers not only a wide range of hardwire solutions but also DSC's new PowerG series of wireless devices. This makes the PowerSeries NEO the most comprehensive hybrid security system in the industry. The NEO systems can be used in residential applications or can also be scaled up to meet large commercial applications as well.
The HS2032NK has the third largest capacity of the 4 PowerSeries NEO panels. Like all NEO panels other than the HS2016NK, the HS2032 has 8 onboard hardwired zones. But it can be expanded to 32 total zones; wireless and hardwired. This makes the HS2032 good for most residential and even some small commercial settings. To reach the 32 zone capacity, you can use either hardwired, wireless, or a combination of hardwired and wireless zones. DSC has the HS2108 8 hardwired zone expansion module that can be added to give the panel more hardwired zone terminals. You can use up to 3 of the HS2108 to reach the 32 zones.
With DSC’s PowerG technology, wireless alarm system technology has taken the next step into the future. And by adding an HSM2HOST9, HS2ICNRF9, or HS2LCDRF9 any PowerSeries NEO becomes a powerful hybrid alarm system that can have up to 32 wireless zones. In the recent past, the wireless technology of DSC and other major alarm system producers has only gotten marginally better while remaining largely unchanged. PowerG has made numerous, seamless upgrades to that already good technology. PowerG has an incredible range. Its line-of-sight range is 2km or 1.24mi. Keep in mind that the actual range when impeded by walls, pipes, and appliances will be lower; but you should still have plenty of range in most situations. If not, DSC has a PowerG repeater (PG9920) that will pickup the wireless signals of your PowerG devices and repeat them to effectively increase their range. On the flip side of PowerG’s impressive range is automatically adjusted transmission strength. In most cases, the PowerG devices will not have to transmit at full strength to reach the transceiver. Because of this DSC has made it so that the devices can adjust their signal strength down to a minimally required level. This can greatly extend the battery life of your PowerG devices. DSC is claiming up to 8 years of battery life on their PowerG sensors. Another major PowerG feature is their frequency hopping technology. If a certain frequency is found to be jammed or have too much interference, the devices can switch to a different frequency that has a clearer reception.
The PowerSeries NEO continues DSC’s tradition of giving exceptional partitioning options. The HS2032 is no exception with the ability to have 4 partitions. Partitions allow you to split up your system into distinct areas that can be armed separately. But if an alarm is caused in any single partition the whole alarm system will go into alarm. While most people may not need to partition, it does add another layer of possibility and versatility to the PowerSeries NEO.
The HS2032NK also comes with 2 PGM outputs. By far the most common use for these is with either 2-wire or 4-wire smoke detectors. Generally having the 2 onboard PGM outputs is enough, but the system can expand similarly to regular hardwired zones. The HS2032 can have up to 38 PGM outputs by using 1 of the HSM2204 and up to 4 of the HSM2208 PGM expander cards.
Thanks to upgraded hardware on the PowerSeries NEO, DSC was able to greatly improve the user interface on the LCD style keypads. This is true throughout all the functions, but is perhaps most noticeable in the programming. If you have experience with programming on previous PowerSeries iterations, programming the PowerSeries NEO will feel very familiar. But DSC was able to do a few tweaks to make the programming a fair amount more user friendly. First, they were able to combine some areas into one programming section. Things like assigning zone types and turning on zones in a partition are now done in single sections with some subsections instead of being spread across a number of sections. The second thing that DSC added was additional information on the screen. Also they added the ability to scroll much more easily through sections and even options. An example of where these might come into play is, again, in section 001 which is where zone types are assigned. When you go to that section you can scroll to or type in the zone number you want to edit. The screen will show which zone it is on. Then once into that zone to edit it, you can even scroll through the list of zone types that shows not only the zone type number but also the zone type name.
This version of the HS2032NK is CP01 compliant and has all the fail safes in place to help protect against false alarms. You will not be able to pick values for some programming sections below a certain value such as the entry/exit delays. Keep in mind that this is the board and cabinet only and you will need a transformer and backup battery to go with it.
