Can you program with the 6150 keypad?

Technically, you can program with the 6150 keypads although we don’t recommend it at all. It is far too complicated for a beginner to try and program a Honeywell Vista system with a 6150 keypad.

The 6150 keypads have a numeric readout and will not show all things in the Vista system’s programming sections. You will be programming ‘blind’. 6150 keypads are great for secondary add-on keypads if all you need is a keypad in a location to arm and disarm the system with. If you want a keypad for programming the system then we would suggest getting any of the 6160 models or choose between the Tuxedo or 6280 touchscreen keypads. - Back To Top

Can I label my zones with a 6150 keypad?

No. You will not be able to label your zones with a 6150 keypad. Because the 6150 is what is called a ‘Fixed-English’ keypad it mainly only displays numbers. It does have tiny words that display at the top of the screen, but these are the ‘fixed words’ that indicate what mode the panel is armed in.

To be able to have zone labelling capability you will have to use any of the 6160 alphanumeric keypads or the touchscreen keypads such as the Tuxedo or 6280. - Back To Top

How do I wire the keypad?

To wire the keypad into the Honeywell Vista system you will need 22 gauge 4 conductor wire. You will make a run of the 22 gauge 4 conductor wire from the location you're installing the keypad back to the main control panel.

You will then connect the wire to the keypad. 22 gauge alarm wire comes standard with four colored wires; red, black, green and yellow. At the keypad you will wire the red into the '+' terminal, the black into the '-' terminal, the green into the 'G' terminal, and the yellow into the 'Y' terminal.

At the panel end you'll wire the black into terminal '4', the red into terminal '5', the green into terminal '6', and the yellow into terminal '7'. - Back To Top

Is there anything special I have to do to use the receiver on a 6160RF?

There is nothing out of the box that you will have to do to make the receiver work on a 6160RF keypad. The only thing you'll need to do to the keypad when it's first powered up is to set the address of the keypad. After that you will just continue to hit the '*' key until the keypad boots up. - Back To Top

Can i use two 6160RF keypads on the same system?

You will not be able to use two 6160RF keypads on the same system. If you have two 6160RF keypads on the system then they will cancel each other out and cause errors. - Back To Top

Can I label my zones with the 6160, 6160RF and 6160V?

What are the differences between the 6160, 6160RF and 6160V?

The main differences between these three keypads are the features they present. All of them are alphanumeric keypads and are great for programming a system and for being able to display zone labels.

The 6160 is just an alphanumeric keypad and that's all that it has to offer. You can go into installer programming and view all the information available in your programming sections.

The 6160RF is an alphanumeric style keypad that has a built-in Honeywell wireless receiver. You'll get all of the faetures of the 6160 and the ability to use Honeywell's 5800 series wireles burglary, fire, and environmental detection devices.

The 6160V is an alphanumeric keypad that featueres voice annunciation. You'll, again, get all of the features of the 6160 and the ability for the keypad to speak system status and any zone labels that are available in the panel's vocabluary list. This keypad will not speak custom zone labels though. - Back To Top

6280 Touchscreen Keypad

Can you program the Vista with the 6280?

Yes. You will be able to program the Vista system with the 6280 keypad. The keypad itself features what is called a 'Console mode'. You can access this by going into the 'Security' menu and then choose 'More choices'. In this menu you will see 'Console mode'. When you choose this you will be presented a screen that resembles the readout on a 6160 alphanumeric keypad. - Back To Top

Tuxedo Wi-Fi Touchscreen Keypad

Does the Tuxedo WIFI have a wireless receiver?

The Tuxedo keypad does not feature a wireless receiver. You won't be able to use the Honeywell 5800 series wireless devices with just the Tuxedo alone. All the Tuxedo is is a color touchscreen keypad with a built-in Z-Wave controller. - Back To Top

Can you control Z-Wave devices with the Tuxedo?

Yes. You will be able to use Z-Wave devices and control them, locally, with the Tuxedo keypad. You will be able to add Z-wave devices and set scenes for them using the Tuxedo keypad. The scenes you set will be triggered when certain conditions are met. - Back To Top
